“Destruction” by Nkengas - album review
features in: Album Chart of 1973 ● Album Chart of the Decade: 1970s |
So, the story goes that Osita Osadebe was on a UK tour and financial hardship led to members of his Nigeria Sound Makers band jumping ship to form another group while in London, the Nkengas, led by Vincent Okoroego. There, they were fortunate enough to fall in with labe owner and record-store owner Sonny Roberts, a Jamaican-born sympathizer. After the recording sessions, released on Sonny's Orbitone label, the band returned to Nigeria and became known as the Ikenga Super Stars of Africa, finding much success in West Africa.
