The second album billed to Paul McCartney and Wings - largely recorded in an ill-advised sojourn to Nigeria - was released just in time for Christmas, 1973. Fall outs meant that they were now down to a trio: Paul McCartney (vocals, bass, acoustic and electric guitars, piano, keyboards, drums, percussion), Linda McCartney (backing vocals, organ, keyboards, percussion) and Denny Laine (backing vocals, acoustic and electric guitars, percussion). It starts off none too disagreeably with the melodic pop-rocker “Band On The Run” and gets better with the glam-pop rush of “Jet”, cutely named after McCartney's labrador! Both of these cuts would go on to be big hit singles, and the LP would subsequently hit #1 in the UK in the slipstream of this success. Elsewhere, things are predictably middle-of-the-road and leave me completely unmoved. One of the Rolling Stones' “500 Greatest Albums of All-Time”. Don't trust them mates…
