“20 / 20” by The Beach Boys - album review
features in: Album Chart of 1969 ● Album Chart of the Decade: 1960s |
Starts magnificently with “Do It Again”, goes on to feature 2 splendid covers of The Ronettes “I Can Hear Music” and Lead Belly’s “Cotton Fields”, and finishes in a marvellous psychedelic haze with “Cabinessence”, a track rescued from the scuppered “Smile” album. As with the preceding “Friends” LP, the top 4 tracks dominate the rest, but unlike the preceding 3 albums, there’s plenty encouragement here that suggests all is not yet lost for The Beach Boys.
