“Hollies [1965]” by The Hollies - album review
features in: Album Chart of 1965 ● Album Chart of the Decade: 1960s |
Keen fans of The Hollies would be disappointed to note that the majority of their 3rd LP was made up of cover versions; “Very Last Day” (Peter, Paul and Mary, 1963), “You Must Believe Me” (The Impressions, 1964), “Down The Line” (as “Go! Go! Go!” by Roy Orbison and Teen Kings, 1956), “That’s My Desire” (Russell Wooding’s Red Caps, 1931), “Lawdy Miss Clawdy” (Lloyd Price and his Orchestra, 1952), “Fortune Teller” (Benny Spellman, 1962) and “Mickey’s Monkey” (The Miracles, 1963). 2 of the best 3 - “Put Yourself In My Place” and “When I Come Home To You” - were self-penned.
